Located on Boulevard Diderot in the 12th arrondissement, Emmaüs Diderot is one of those conscientious addresses where you come to dig without quite knowing what you'll find. The clothing and shoe section sits alongside secondhand furniture, paperback books and mismatched crockery — a typical mix of Emmaüs consignment stores, with stock that shifts from week to week. Prices follow the network's logic: affordable, sometimes remarkably low on certain items. The atmosphere, however, is less than idyllic.
The space is loud, staff can be unwelcoming according to regular visitors, and the displays lack the careful curation of a proper vintage boutique. But therein lies its appeal: good pieces don't linger long, and those who visit regularly always seem to leave with something. Think of it as a hunting ground to explore without particular expectations, rather than a destination for the experience itself.
« Je vais dans cet Emmaüs depuis longtemps, notamment pour le rayon livres qui est très bien. Mais, franchement, les prix sont devenus démentiels : 8 € un t-shirt de piètre qualité de chez Zara, shein ou Uniqlo qui serait vendu même pas 2€ partout ailleurs. 1150€ (en promo à 950€) pour une table et 4 chaises… je comprends que certain don on de la valeur et qu’il n’y a pas de raison de les brader mais la personne qui fixe les prix pense plutôt être un antiquaire, qu’un bénévole de chez Emmaüs. Dommage ce n’est plus une boutique solidaire »
